BOAT REPAIRS · SPAIN

Boat repairs and marine fault diagnosis. Diagnose before replacing parts.

When something fails on a boat, a good repair starts by understanding the cause. We coordinate diagnosis and repair for engines, electrical and electronic systems, cooling, transmission, steering, pumps, GRP, air conditioning and other leisure-boat equipment.

REPAIR WITH EVIDENCE

The fault is not always where the symptom appears.

Loss of power, a battery that keeps discharging, a pump cycling too often, electronics restarting or steering developing play can all have very different causes. Replacing components without measurement or diagnosis can increase the bill without solving the problem.

That is why repairs are separated from preventive maintenance: once a fault exists, the priority is to identify the cause, isolate the affected system and define the right intervention before ordering parts or dismantling equipment.

If there is no fault and you need scheduled servicing, see our boat maintenance service. View preventive maintenance →

MARINE REPAIRS

Faults and onboard systems we can help coordinate.

The exact intervention depends on the boat, location and specialist required. Fontnautic can coordinate diagnosis and the appropriate professional when the work forms part of the assignment.

Engines & mechanical

Starting, power loss, smoke, temperature, fuel, injection, leaks, mounts, belts and engine auxiliaries.

Cooling & exhaust

Impellers, heat exchangers, hoses, pumps, seawater flow, elbows, ventilation and abnormal temperature.

Marine electrics

Batteries, alternators, chargers, wiring, earths, switchboards, fuses, relays, parasitic loads and intermittent faults.

Marine electronics

Instrumentation, sensors, autopilots, plotters, networks, communications and navigation-equipment power supply.

Propulsion & steering

Shafts, propellers, sterndrives, saildrives, transmissions, hydraulic or mechanical steering, rudders and vibration.

Hull & GRP

Fibreglass, gelcoat, minor structural damage, sealing, leaks, fittings and deck repairs.

Pumps & water systems

Bilge, fresh water, black water, pressure systems, seacocks, valves and leaks.

Comfort & auxiliaries

Air conditioning, generators, hydraulics, windlasses, thrusters and other installed equipment.

INBOARD AND OUTBOARD ENGINES

The symptom helps, but diagnosis needs data.

With marine engines it helps to know whether the problem appears cold or hot, at which rpm, whether alarms are present, whether twin engines behave differently and what maintenance was carried out recently. Temperature, smoke, pressure, charging, cooling flow and behaviour under load are more useful than replacing parts by guesswork.

An inboard installation also involves transmission, shaft or saildrive, exhaust, ventilation, mounts and fuel supply. Outboards may require electronic diagnostics, fuel-pressure checks, cooling, trim, steering and manufacturer-specific procedures.

Where reasonable, we prioritise diagnosis and measurement before authorising an expensive replacement.

HOW WE WORK

From a symptom to a verifiable repair.

1

Gather information

Boat model, engines, location, symptom, alarms, photos, video and recent work.

2

Define the diagnosis

Decide what should be measured or checked and which specialist makes sense.

3

Scope or quotation

Separate diagnosis, labour, parts, boatyard and additional work where possible.

4

Repair

Coordinate repair, replacement or adjustment and document the work completed.

5

Viewify

Confirm operation in harbour, under load or on a sea trial when appropriate.

PRICE & QUOTATION

How much does a boat repair cost?

There is no credible fault-repair price based on length alone. Cost depends on diagnostic time, accessibility, parts, equipment brand, travel, boatyard requirements and whether the original fault has caused secondary damage.

Straightforward jobs can sometimes be quoted from the outset. With complex faults, approving a limited diagnostic phase first can be more sensible, then deciding from evidence whether to repair, replace or postpone.

Diagnosis

Technician time, tests and measurements needed to locate the cause.

Labour

Dismantling, repair, refitting, adjustment and verification.

Parts

Spares, consumables, freight and manufacturer availability.

Logistics

Travel, haul-out, crane, access to the boat or special equipment.

URGENT FAULTS

A technical emergency does not always allow an immediate repair.

If there is water ingress, electrical danger, severe overheating, fuel in the bilge or any situation that may affect safety, the priority is to stop the equipment when safe and contact local assistance or emergency services when appropriate. Fontnautic is not a 24/7 emergency service; we can help organise the repair once the immediate situation is under control.

SERVICE

When is authorised service the right choice?

Warranty, technical campaigns, proprietary software, specific electronic diagnostics or certain parts can justify using an authorised service centre. In other cases, a strong multi-brand specialist may be faster and more appropriate. The choice should follow the equipment and task, not a single rule.

BOAT REPAIRS IN SPAIN

Logistics are part of a good repair.

We can assess repair coordination in Catalonia and other areas of Spain depending on the job, specialist availability, access to the boat and required equipment. Some faults can be resolved onboard; others require haul-out, crane access, workshop support or authorised service.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about boat repairs.

Does Fontnautic carry out every repair directly?

Not necessarily. Depending on the fault, a marine mechanic, authorised service centre, electrician, electronics technician, GRP specialist, HVAC technician, hydraulic specialist or boatyard may be involved. Fontnautic can coordinate the process and keep one clear line of communication.

Can you repair a boat I did not buy through Fontnautic?

Yes, provided the type of work, location and specialist availability make the coordination practical.

Can a fault be quoted without seeing the boat?

Sometimes, for clearly defined work. A complex fault may need diagnosis first. Giving a fixed price without understanding the cause can be less reliable than separating the diagnostic stage.

What information should I send?

Boat model, engines, location, symptom, when it occurs, alarms, photos or video and any recent maintenance or repair that may be related.

Do you work with inboard and outboard engines?

We can coordinate both. The correct diagnostic route and specialist depend on brand, model, propulsion system and type of fault.

Should a repair include a sea trial?

Not always. Some repairs can be verified in harbour or by measurement. If the fault appears under load, at specific rpm or while underway, a sea trial may be necessary to confirm the repair.

What is the difference between repair and maintenance?

Maintenance aims to prevent failures through scheduled checks and servicing. Repair begins when a fault, abnormal behaviour or failed component already exists and requires diagnosis.

TELL US WHAT IS HAPPENING

You do not need to know the technical name of the fault.

With the boat model, engines, location and a clear description of the symptom, we can start structuring the diagnosis and decide the next step.
